The 2018 Lido 14 Class Association National Seniors Championships will be held in Alameda, California at the Encinal Yacht Club on July 10, 11, 12, 2018 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.) The Encinal Yacht Club is a long time favorite of the Bay Area and has been around since 1890. It is located on the island of Alameda in San Francisco Bay, west of the City of Oakland with easy access to the greater San Francisco Bay.
Encinal Yacht Club has a spectacular clubhouse with a great view. They will provide meals for us as well as avail us of their facilities, including a large swimming pool right by the waterfront and a hoist for launching boats. We will be racing in the Alameda Estuary, which is protected from the more mercurial SF Bay winds.
The dates of the event were chosen to coordinate with the High Sierra Regatta at Huntington Lake the weekend before. So for all those making the trip to Northern California, you can sail at the High Sierra’s (July 7 and 8 - Saturday and Sunday), then drive to the Bay Area on Monday and start the Nationals on Tuesday. This leaves you Friday-Sunday, after the Nationals, to enjoy some of the sites of the San Francisco Bay Area before traveling home.
In addition to all that San Francisco has to offer, Oakland’s Jack London Square, a popular tourist attraction, is close by across the Estuary to the north. Also, it will be baseball season during the Nationals, so for those interested, the Oakland A’s will be playing the SF Giants Friday-Sunday, July 13-15. So there is no shortage of things to do to cap off your visit to the Nationals in the San Francisco Bay Area. You can leave your boat and trailer at the club and enjoy the sights.
We look forward to seeing you in July 2018 for some exciting racing. Make sure you’re ready for some tough competition from our NorCal sailors! Registration will be set up shortly and the Notice of Race will be coming out soon.
