The inside Lido fleet was one scrappy group! Every boat was either a National Champ, Fleet Champ, BigBoat driver, West Marine rep, or Finn World contender! You could be first in one race – last in the next! Starts were muy importantante, as well as favored sides and pressure. Tactics and rules were present at every crossing and rounding. It was nice to be in the wide open outer basin after bumping off inflatables, transoms, rocks, and outboards for 2 months of Thirsty Thursdays. Two full days of clean windward-leeward courses, sunny skies, steady 7-10 knot breezes and pedal-to-the-metal competition! It doesn’t get any better.
The newly crowned Silver Ntl Champ Tim Zimmerman and Slater took home the goods, perennial fleet champs Hugh and Stevy Mast held on to 2nd, BigBoat Gypsies Tim Gallagher-John Erhart with help from Finn Master John Slatebo nailed 3rd. Me and Trevor were a solid forth, 2010 Fleet Champ Larry Rowe and Jennifer Paine hung in there for 5th and many thanks to Bruce Wasson ABYC and crew for gracing our courses then splitting the second day – leaving an opening for me and Larry!
OYC’s RC of Ron and Challa Dreyer, Rick Mathews, and Gerry did and superb job of perfect start lines and multiple course laps.
Tons of thanks to Terri Manok, Hospice Race Chairwoman for everything from our race packets and trophies to the RC’s lunches!! Even Bronny Daniels of joysailing.com was onhand Sunday to photo the Lido fleet and awards - check her wonderful sailing photography webside. Elizabeth Hospice Charity Regatta will be back next year and hopefully we will see a Junior fleet as well as the Masters return!
