Kathy Reed and Susan Williams accomplished what no other Women's Lido 14 sailors have done before, win the Women's Lido nationals three times in a row. Kathy, not sailing with her usual crack crew Cindy Heavrin due to a shoulder injury, picked up local hot shot Susan Williams, drove down to MBYC to win the three boat fleet. Said Kathy after winning with a 1, 1, 2 finish, "I'm pretty darn happy today".
With two hurricanes off Mexico, rain, lighting and lack of wind caused havoc with the races. After an hour of postponement, PRO Roger Patterson finally got the first race off with just barely enough wind to keep the sails full. In the first race, holes filled the race course and Reed, due to the almost nonexistent wind, was ½ minute late to the start, but she was able to look ahead and saw that right side had more breeze and went on to take the lead from Terry Johnson. Reed repeated a win in the second race. The third race Terry Johnson gave Kathy a run for the money. Reed covered Terry every chance she could upwind, except for the last tack to the weather mark in which they split tacks and Johnson nailing the shift passed Reed for the win.
All Ladies received a nice grab bag which included some nice "L" earings which they will be wearing proudly.
